In chapter two we learn a lot about the ceremonies. The whole chapter is a chat between Jonas and his parents just before bed time. We learn about the book of rules, which contains all the rules in this world that they live in. One of the biggest rules we learn about is the fact that children are only allowed to ride a bicycle at 8. Children also start their lives with a comfort object. Usually a stuffed toy of some kind. My question here is where they say in the story “No one really knows what these creatures are”, while they were “regular” animals that we all know. Why do they not know what an elephant or a bear is?
