For my iSearch I chose to research the release from the giver.

The release is a ceremony in which citizens are “released to elsewhere”. The citizens themselves think this means that they leave the community to get to another. However, this is not the case. instead, wether its newborns or 90 year olds, anyone who is released is injected by a lethal injection. In doing a bit of research, I came across a biography of Lois Lowry, the author of The Giver. In said biography, Lois talks about who all her books seem to be set around a general theme, being the importance of human connections. She also notes that one of her daughters had become disabled as a result of a disease in the central nervous system. She says that because of this, it has made her gain a passionate awareness of the importance in human connections, most notably, how people see people with disabilities. This all comes back to the release. A newborn could be released as a twin, just because the other twin is bigger and weighs more than the other. This could be in the book because of Lois’ strong awareness of the importance of human connection.
