Reflection
This activity was a problem. the problem instructions were there are 3 humans, 2 monkeys, and a gorilla. the idea is that you have to get all the mammals over a river in one boat. only 2 mammals can go over at one time but the boat can be taken there and back. only the humans and the ape can move the boat so if a monkey goes across the river it has to be with an ape or a human. If the apes outnumber the humans they will kill the humans. In this activity I worked with Lyle. Me and Lyle had a lot of trouble coming up with the solution but eventually after about 20 or so minutes, we got it. I found this a great way to learn how to cooperate with my friends, or in this case Lyle, on activities that required skill and hard work. I find I gained an even better friendship with Lyle over this activity, because we both learned that we both have the capability to solve challenging puzzles such as these. After we got it, the solution seemed real simple as we realized that although only 2 mammals can be in the boat at a time, it doesn’t mean there has to be.
This is the solution we came up with:
- gorilla goes over with monkey
- gorilla comes back
- gorilla goes over with other money
- gorilla comes back
- human goes over with human
- human comes back with monkey
- human goes over with other human
- human comes back with monkey
- human goes over with gorilla
- gorilla comes back
- gorilla goes over with monkey
- gorilla comes back
- gorilla goes over with monkey
But when the human goes back with the monkey, then he is with three apes when he gets there, so doesn’t the human get overpowered by the apes? Other than that its good
Ok step 7 and 9 should switch then.
7. human goes over with gorilla
9. human goes over with human
